Perth – After a joyous return back into the office halfway through 2022 motivation was high and everyone in the office pitched in for morning teas, casual Friday drinks and putting up the Christmas decorations at the beginning of December.

Twelve months later and the story is very different. After the new CEO announced a round of layoffs motivation among remaining staff members is low. There were even reports that their clients in Sydney didn’t even organise a Christmas party.

As such the box of Christmas decorations in the corner of the stationery cupboard – right next to the branded pens and Lead Small Teams Effectively workbooks – remain untouched.
When the CEO asked the Team Leader (who happened to be a woman) where the decorations are she pointed to the tinsel hanging off the dusty pipe without breaking eye contact with him. After a stony silence no further small talk was made for the remainder of the year.
