Melbourne – Just like all previous weekly Monday morning team calls Production Coordinator Mahdi Anderson feels a sense of dread in the lead up to these calls.
Each Monday at 9:30am the team dials into a video call to discuss their allocations for the week, and to flag possible roadblocks. Mr. Anderson has noted that these calls usually aren’t very productive and as such has started joining them later and later. ‘If I jump in at 9:32am I miss out on small talk and get right into it’. Others in his team have realised this too and followed the trend, and it has now become so that there’s an unspoken rule to only join the call when there’s a few people already in it.
As of 9:28am Mr. Anderson has sat in the lobby of the video call waiting for his teammates’ icons to appear and show they are in the meeting. Five minutes later and there’s still not a single person in the weekly call. Unsure of his next move he Slacked the team with ‘Just finishing something up, joining now’, followed by multiple ‘Same here’ emojis from his coworkers.

Afterwards he described the meeting as ‘generally unnecessary’.
